Maria Chrisoulakis is a self-taught visual artist working and living in Tasmania, Australia. Maria specialises in portraiture and figurative pieces using a combination of graphite and charcoal her medium. She draws her creativity and inspiration from people as she loves how versatile the human figure is in regards to its capability of portraying many diverse representations. For example, the study can involve an appreciation of body shape such as postures and movements. As well as, body language; for example, gestures, facial expressions and eye movements. In her eyes our body is art and every bodyscape is beautifully unique and believes that is something which we as a society should embrace positively.  Maria describes portraits to have a number of functions that stretch further than fine execution to create a resemblance and a realistic representation of an individual. They have the power to remember a person at their most manifest moment as well as depicting raw honest emotion. “Art is not what you see but what you make others see.”
